This past weekend, Billie Eilish paid respects to late Foo Fighter’ drummer Taylor Hawkins during her performance at the Grammys. While singing her album’s featured track “Happier Than Ever” with her brother Finneas, she was seen wearing a T-shirt with Taylor Hawkins on it. Eilish faced the crowd and showed off her shirt while smiling, paying tribute to the late drummer. Eilish was up for some of the biggest awards for the Grammys, and she was nominated for the best pop solo performance, best music video, and best pop vocal album.
Taylor Hawkins tragically passed away on March 25th while on tour at age 50, resulting in the Foo Fighters canceling their Grammys performance and end of their tour. The band did receive an award for best rock performance for their song “Making A Fire”. Although Foo Fighter weren’t in attendance at the awards show, they shared their thoughts with the following: “We’re sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won’t be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let’s take the time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together.”
Foo Fighters’ David Grohl was an especially good friend of Hawkins, and in his memoir he described his first encounter with his friend:
“Upon first meeting, our bond was immediate, and we grew closer every day, every song, every note that we played together. I am not afraid to say that our chance meeting was a kind of love at first sight, igniting a musical ‘twin flame’ that still burns to this day,”
“Together, we have become an unstoppable duo, onstage and off, in pursuit of any and all adventure we can find.”
