Virgo Season is upon us, and with Virgo season comes the perfect time to set your priorities in order. From cleaning your house to establishing boundaries with that slightly overbearing friend of yours, it’s time for all Virgos to shine. Don’t worry, we’ve got the list of the top 10 Virgo vocalists so you can jam out while planning out every aspect of your life (or not, we know how those September Virgos can be).
#10 – Chrissie Hynde (September 7, 1951)
I know we’re starting this list with a throwback artist, but nothing says “let’s unbox these feelings” like some good old-fashioned 80’s girl-rock. Her work with The Pretenders gave us some hit ballads that are perfect for a fresh bottle of wine while burning the pictures of your ex you found in that forgotten shoebox in the closet. During Hynde’s work with The Pretenders, we were blessed with the power of “I’ll Stand By You”, “Stop Your Sobbing”, and “Tattooed Love Boys”. Personally? You can find me rocking out to “Back on the Chain Gang” while I clean my house like Cinderella.
#9 – Macy Gray (September 6, 1967)
Macy Gray is an RnB icon, and this singer-songwriter knows it. On top of her music career, Gray is an actress and record producer – proof Virgos really can do it all. Gray rose to fame from her hit single “I Try” and didn’t look back. Her discography boasts songs for feature films like Spider-Man, For Colored Girls, and even Scary Movie 3. Gray’s “Sexual Revolution” followed by “I’ve Committed Murder” are Virgo anthems worth making it onto your Spotify 2021 recap.
#8 – Barry White (September 12, 1994)
Virgo men represent! Barry White’s sultry baritone is the perfect soundtrack for anything. Grab a vinyl at any flea market and throw an impromptu karaoke night with your friends or make the next move with whoever you’ve been “just talking to” for the last few months. White’s mix of disco, funk, and soul gave us hits like “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe”, making it perfect for a love-struck Virgo scared to voice their own feelings.
#7 – Shania Twain (August 28, 1965)
Three words – let’s go girls. Our first August Virgo of the list, Twain is our Canadian multi-genre girl’s night go-to. The best-selling female country artist (in history, I would like to add) has pumped out hit after hit and given us one of the most Virgo songs I can think of with “That Don’t Impress Me Much”. Do I even have to mention “Man! I Feel Like a Woman”? No. But I did it anyway.
#6 – Jennifer Hudson (September 12, 1981)
September Virgos continues to dominate this list as J. Hud takes the stage. Awarded singer and actress, Hudson took us by storm when she appeared on American Idol. Her singing is just one part of her, as she brought us to TEARS with commanding performances in The Secret Life of Bees and The Color Purple. Hits like “We Gon’ Fight” and “I Got This” give us the power punches we need to take control this season. J. Hud, if you’re reading, you’re the saving grace of the Cats movie.
#5 – Florence Welch (August 28, 1986)
Another August Virgo on the list as we take a look at the ethereal Florence Welch. Welch embodies her earth sign through her flowing, Earth Goddess fashion style, giving us strong 80’s Arwen vibes. Her vocals match the drapes, as she empowers Virgos everywhere with “Dog Days Are Over” (Leo season can be so exhausting) and “St. Jude”.
#4 – Amy Winehouse (September 14, 1983)
No Virgo artists list would be complete without the jazzy-voiced Amy Winehouse. The late great singer-songwriter showed the stubborn and often detrimental side of Virgos through her raw interviews and even more raw lyrics. “Back to Black” will always hold a place in my heart, and “Valerie” remains a karaoke favorite. Winehouse reminds us to check on our friends, and to check on ourselves. We miss you Amy.
#3 – P!nk (September 8, 1979)
Pop-rock Icon P!nk has been on the forefront of steadfast, confident, and empowered women in the music industry the moment she started making music in 1995. She embodies sexuality, and a can-do attitude. Her rock anthems are truly iconic for 90’s babies, giving us woman-power ballads like “So What”, “Raise Your Glass”, and the iconic sad girl song “Please Don’t Leave Me”. Not to mention her performance on the multi-artist pop hit “Lady Marmalade”.
#2 – Beyonce (September 4, 1981)
Is anyone surprised Queen B is a Virgo? I know I’m not. With too many Virgo season must-listens to name, I’ll simply say this – Beyonce might as well be the Virgo symbol. Sasha Fierce continues to rule the world and dominate the entertainment industry by adding actress, producer, dancer, and businesswoman to her already impressive (and probably immaculately organized) resume. This Virgo Queen can’t be stopped.
#1 – Freddie Mercury (September 5, 1946)
Bey may be a queen, but THE Queen spot goes to the Bicon himself – Freddie Mercury. Lead vocalist of Queen, Zanzibar-native Freddie was a beacon of change and love. His death rocked the entertainment community and brought up important conversations about AIDS during a time of crisis. Freddie, thank you for being a role model for bisexual men everywhere.
